Student Services Training & Development

The following tutorials are available to all IPD and CAAHE student services personnel.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
This course introduces the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. ADA guarantees that all students with disabilities are given equal access to educational opportunities.

Introduction to FERPA
This tutorial is designed to introduce the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and to discuss its impact on student services, academic records and faculty. Emphasis is placed on the confidentiality of student records and the rights of students to access their records.

Introduction to Learning Teams
This course is designed to introduce student services personnel to the terms, concepts and requirements of learning teams and collaborative learning.

Introduction to Student Retention
This self-paced workshop is designed to provide a foundation upon which IPD and its partner institutions' staff can build solid adult student retention strategies.

Military Credentials Evaluation
This course introduces the American Council on Education's (ACE) program to evaluate military training. Topics include evaluation criteria and documentation requirements, including the Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System, the Sailor/Marines ACE Registry Transcript and major military documents (DD214 and DD295).

Prior Learning Assessment
This tutorial introduces the concept of assessment of prior learning, which is the institutional evaluation, for academic credit, of a student's college-level learning outside the traditional classroom.

Transfer Credit
This tutorial covers the various sources of credit an incoming student may have earned. Topics include transfer credit policies and categories, types of accreditation, course waivers and general education.

Transcript Evaluation
This tutorial introduces participants to generally accepted transcript evaluation policies and procedures. Topics include steps for assessing transferable and nontransferable credits, general education, course waivers and grade point average calculations.

Undergraduate Admissions and Class Start Process
This tutorial introduces the policies and processes for undergraduate student admission, academic advisement and class starts. Topics include degree completion planning, composition of the admissions committees, class rosters, class registration and formal file transfer.
